Day 26

This morning I hung out with Grandma while Mommy took a shower and Daddy cleaned up around the house.

Later in the afternoon we drove to Uncle Tim's house.  He came with us to go on the Earth Day tour of the diaper factory.

Seattle's Baby Diaper Service had an open house and I got to see where my di-di's get cleaned and sorted.

Mommy thought my diaper was really stinky-dirty and almost tossed me in the big washing machine (but she was only teasing)!

Renewable, Recyclable, Reusable

RENEWABLE: The single-use life cycle of disposable diapers perpetuate their continued consumption, causing undue stress on our natural resources.
-The U.S. consumes an estimated 40.4 billion disposable diapers each year.
-Over 92% of all single-use diapers end up in a landfill.
-Over 300 lbs. of wood and 50 lbs. of petroleum feedstocks are used to produce disposable diapers for ONE baby EACH year.

RECYCLABLE: Disposable diapers are not readily biodegradable which is why it is estimated they take 250-500 years to decompose. In 1991, an attempt to recycle disposable diapers was deemed economically unfeasible.

REUSEABLE: Cotton diapers are not single-use diapers. A family can expect to reuse cloth diapers 50 to 200 times before turning them into rags.

Both of these web addresses contain worthwhile discussions on the benefits of cloth diapering.

MAKE EARTH DAY EVERYDAY!!
